Throwing Stars are a traditional Japanese concealed weapon generally used for throwing and sometimes melee combat. Also known as a shuriken ('sword hidden in the hand') they were constructed from thin, flat plates of metal with four sharpened points circling a round or octagonal center. Contrary to popular belief, Throwing Stars were not primarily intended as a killing weapon, but rather as a secondary weapon that played a supportive role to a main weapon, usually the sword or spear. The stars were used to cause nuisance or distraction with the eyes, face and hands being the desired target. No ninja, samurai or eastern warrior should be without a few of these.
