A Hatchet is a single-handed striking tool with a sharp blade used to cut and split wood. Although similar to an axe, Hatchets have a shorter handle, thinner blade, hammer-back head, and not developed for general combat. Both tools have come a long way in their history. After the use of stone and bone to fabricate the heads, other raw materials such as copper and iron were used for increased durability. Advancement of the fur and hide trade in 18th Century North America led to the forging of steel hatchets called 'trade tomahawks' by the trappers and frontiersmen that carried them. Modern use of the Hatchet hasn't changed much from its original purpose, but remains an effective tool in the grasp of any minifig. Fits most standard minifig hands.
