Masks were often worn during the gladiatorial events to reduce the crowds' affinity with the warriors' identities. Of course the Gladiator Mask was also great for protection - even though it could be quite stifling and hinder peripheral vision. Perhaps what it lacked in function, it made up in form; opponents would never know where the eyes were looking, and the completely alien nature of the mask had to be unsettling. Gladius is literally Latin for "sword" and emerged from the Iron Age to be used by Roman Legionaries from the 3rd century BC. The common Gladius was straight and double-edged, with a sharp V-shaped pointed tip and a rhomboid cross section - ideal for short, powerful thrusts. Fits most standard minifig hands.

Khopesh is the Egyptian name of the Canaanite 'sickle-sword'. Its origins can be traced back to third millennium Sumeria where it was most likely developed from its implement cousin; used to harvest grain or cutting grass for hay. Much like axes, spears & hammers; ancient sickles were modified by laborers into makeshift weapons for defense & protection. The spine of the Khopesh was made heaviest so that its center of gravity could better cleave through armor.......and assailants! Fits most standard minifig hands.

The use of Military Shields spans the course of history and is nearly universal amongst all methods of combat. Considered a handheld protective device, shields are used to protect against armed melee attacks and projectiles. Shield designs vary based on tactics and accompanying weaponry, but modern Military Shields have settled on a handful of basic designs. Used by many police forces and military officers, the rectangular design protects most of the body from relatively large and low velocity projectiles as well as blows from fists and other handheld weapons. Special Forces and SWAT teams use such shields in high risk entry and siege scenarios. Standard grip fits most minifig hands.

Typically used with a shield or buckler, the Military Sword, or arming sword, is the standard weapon given to infantry, militia and footmen. The Military Sword is overall a light, versatile weapon capable of both cut and thrust combat; and normally boasts excellent balance. It's simple construction allows for rapid production once the torches are lit and war drums start banging. Fits most standard minifig hands.

The Roman Shield, or Scutum has come to be specifically associated with the rectangular, semi-cylindrical body shield carried by ancient Roman soldiers. The shield's curved shape covers the wielder's front and sides, affording excellent protection. The curved shape of the shield allows it to absorb (and deal) heavy blows, while the sides slope away from the attacker, allowing arrows and enemy blows to glance off without transmitting the full force of the impact to the soldier sheltering behind it. Bundle together to create the Roman 'testudo' or add our Gladius to achieve a perfect one-two defensive strike. Our Roman Shield is created without a center boss and smooth surface so you can apply your own design using decals, paints or other preferred types of mediums. Flat inside consists of a centered, standard minifig grip.

Choosing from a variety of colors you can limit the amount of light that enters the helmet or pretend to command your troops via heads up display. The visor simply snaps into the Powered Assault Helmet using two small pegs on either side.
