Of course the Gladiator Mask was also great for protection - even though it could be quite stifling and hinder peripheral vision. Perhaps what it lacked in function, it made up in form; opponents would never know where the eyes were looking, and the completely alien nature of the mask had to be unsettling. Khopesh is the Egyptian name of the Canaanite 'sickle-sword'. Its origins can be traced back to third millennium Sumeria where it was most likely developed from its implement cousin; used to harvest grain or cutting grass for hay. Much like axes, spears & hammers; ancient sickles were modified by laborers into makeshift weapons for defense & protection. The spine of the Khopesh was made heaviest so that its center of gravity could better cleave through armor.......and assailants! Fits most standard minifig hands.
