The Javelin is the name of a light spear designed primarily for casting as a ranged weapon. Cohorts of throwers were often employed in hit-and-run maneuvers to harass and taunt unprotected battalions, disrupting close formations. Cavalries would often hurl several volleys to soften enemy forces prior to a frontal attack. Skill with a Javelin was so admired it became a regular part of the ancient Olympics. BrickForge's Knights Shield is in essence an elongated heater shield based on a late 12th century design when kite shields were becoming shorter and more triangular. The Longbow is a fairly tall, D-shaped bow which accomodatesan extra long draw. As such it has been instrumental in many cultures as both a hunting tool and weapon of warfare. In the Middle Ages the English were famous for their very heavy Longbows which were used to great effect against the French. Longbows also became popular amongst mounted Samurai warfare and Native American tribesmen. A Musket is a muzzle-loaded, smooth bore long gun, fired from the shoulder. Muskets were designed for use by infantry, and soldiers armed with such had the designation musketman or musketeer. Replacing the infamous hand-cannon (arquebus), the Musket consisted of a lock, stock and barrel allowing easier wield, transport and improved accuracy. Despite its widespread use the Musket retained a long reload time - leading to continuous advancements in both the gun's design and tactical use until it was made obsolete by the more-advanced rifled musket. Early bows had a fairly basic shape and were made of carved or flat planes of wood. The Recurve Bow took physics to the next level by utilizing composite materials and a unique double-rounded shape. The additional curves store more energy than an equivalent straight-limbed bow, potentially giving a greater amount of cast to the arrow. Sages differ from Wizards in that they don't actually possess any type of magical power. He may occasionally appear as a hermit or even an absent-minded professor, losing track of his surroundings because of his deep thoughts.
