You mean the "cookie cutter" they use to make the Y wasn't working right? That makes sense.

Or the mold isn't cut like the rest, I'm sure lego wears out molds same as everyone else.

My blacksmith in the Blacksmith Attack set has a solid stud, no y, but the dragon knight has a y. My series 4 minifigs also have ys in their heads... This is kind of a random thing I think, probably pertains to how the heads go to the print machine and then are packaged in sets.

All of my PoTC have "Y"s in 'em.

I looked at mine with a very bright light; in the hollow stud, you can faintly read "LEGO," so chances are that it's not a glitch, but a new way of making the heads. Very strange.

I have noticed this as well, I got the Promotional Ninjago Skull Helicopter, the Skeleton in it had a solid stud, with no air ventilation, the same for my undead captain Barbossa. The hollow stud with the "Y" was originally so air can still pass through incase a child got a minifig head stuck in their throat. One thing that might be causing this change, is that LEGO is now producing parts in China, and must have sent them a lower quality mold.

Oh! I think I read that somewhere else once! Can't remember where, but I heard that once.

They've been making some in China for awhile now.

I really hate it when people say this. |U

Just because Lego is having their parts made in China by a subset of their company (which still makes it Lego), does not make it cheap in quality.

No, but there are cheap Chinese parts. Not all of them, i.e. jester's hat, which is a very nice piece, but many of them are, i.e. tic-tac-toe knights and skellies. :\ It'd be better if they just made them in Europe, not N. America or Asia, under direct control from Billund, where LEGO's strict standards can be rigorously enforced. That way, quality is assured, no "maybes" involved.

Very well put Napoleon, and I agree.
