I had originally posted a Big Cat in this thread but the file has disappeared.

Attached is sort of what I'm getting at. A mount needs a saddle. A saddle takes up a 1x2 chunk - meaning you have to cut out a huge part of the animal. In most cases the 1x2 area takes up more space than is allotted for the animal. So you have to make sure that your animal is big enough to sustain such a huge gap in the back.

Ultimately, you need to scale up all your mounted animals so they are about the size of our Cow.

well you could have the giant wolves as seen in LOTR and big cats along with having normal size wolves and deer.

Llama's would be cool. Wargs are the giant wolves in LoTR.

Wow... hadn't come back to this thread in a while... Thank you to Armothe for shedding some light on this. I agree that deer and wolves can be "scenery" and something like a large cat or bear could be done as a mount and still look good if not used as a mount.

I made a mount out of the Lego polar bear but only cut the center out enough for a dwarf to stand there. I'll take a couple snap shots sometime and post it.

Also, you could make a Reindeer, which is (a) about the size of a horse and (b) ridden by the Saami (Lapp) people as well as used to pull sleds....

I want a yak mount, it's big enough to have a saddle space. Also, you could call a wolf mount a dire wolf seeing as they were supposed to be bigger than current wolves, just an idea.

Great idea! I think a Yak would be great! something for some Huns or Orcs to ride around on. I think A Buffalo would be great too for Western themes... Dire wolf is perfect for a larger wolf too! The list of animals is endless really with ideas.

I really love the deer and removable antler ideas. A hawkstrider/Chocobo-ish mount would be a nice improvement from the ostrich.
