So in my previous inquiry regarding what grade of sandpaper to use for a custom project, it seemed that people were recommending investing in a Dremel tool.

Any recommendations on which model? They have what appears to be a basic kit for around $60, but if I can get a better product for a few bucks more all the better. I am not looking to break the bank on this one as this will likely come out of the LEGO fund.

I bought the basic dremel tool at Wal-Mart for like 30 bucks (was goin by price), and an accessory kit that came with all different heads and other crap I won't use.

This is the one I got and this is the kit. Most of the heads that come with the kit can be bought seperately in singles as well. Lets just hope your local Wal-Mart has a propery stocked and zoned tool department.

I bought a Dremel 4.8V Cordless. It has 2 speeds and comes with 5 tools. I bought it for $20, but had to buy some accessories like the Mandrel for the cutting wheels, the cutting wheels, a collet set, and a drill set. They were all relatively cheap. As Omicron says, you can end up with alot of tools you won't need to use if you buy one with a ton of accessories. I can't seem to find a picture for it, but I found it at Wal-mart. It is sufficient for Lego modding. I can't remember the total I have spent, but the tools I have bought so far are under $20 total.

I know they make a really nice $100 one with a drill attachment if you maybe want a good household tool as well. Otherwise I don't know much about them regarding price and what you need for Lego modding. Dremels are freaking awesome though, my dad has one for general hobby work.

Yeah, but never know when you need them. :P

I only bought the kit cuz my ex was gonna be using the dremel too. :P

Start with the cheapest model you can find. They all work well, but there is no need to invest too much money until you are sure you love the tool. The one thing to look for is a variable speed model, which gives you more control over the tool and what it will do.

If you know an owner who will lend you theirs, ask to try it, that way you won't make a regretted investment.
