What's the average speed for removing a print? I've been using Soft Scrub, which takes quite a long time- though it removes Sharpie faster, meaning that if done right I can remove Sharpie from a piece without damaging the original printing- which is handy considering how much I used to abuse those markers >_<
I'd say the Soft Scrub takes maybe as much as ten minutes to fully remove the print from a torso- how does Brasso compare to that?

Oreo - I have not tried to only remove part of a design, but I will test some ideas this weekend and let you know the best way to do that. The cast is off, and the hand is sore but getting better everyday. I have plenty of time for minifigures because I cannot use power tools or list anything heavy for four more weeks. Shadow - Brasso is much, much faster. The example I showed took ten seconds to remove the design completely. The harder you rub and tighter you hold the cloth, the quicker it works. Older torsos tend to take a little longer, but when I first read about using Brasso, the tutorials said it would take a minute, but I have never needed that long. I usually do 12-15 at a time in 10-12 minutes.

Someone at Brickfest this year used a regular eraser on an indy head to remove just his beard, and it came out good. Just a suggestion.

I've used Comet Sink Cleanser and another metal cleanser in the past to remove print. The Comet can take up to 15 (painfully long) minutes to remove torso print but the other metal cleanser seems to work a bit faster. I'll have to try that rag/piece of wood trick.

I did that too, but the metal around the eraser slipped and gashed the face, so it looks like he has a scar.

Sweet, gotta get some. I've got an old admiral's bicorn hat (white with printing) that is scuffed and now I can redesign the look.
