Which bit of "Trench Knife" did you not understand? These were issued to troops in France 1914-1918 not some modern "gimick".

The French Army even had a set with a Revolver and Knife combination, where the Pistol Grip was replaced by a set of "Brass Knuckles". Which were issued only to Officers serving in the trenches! {:8
