Don't blame me. I didn't coin the name. I suspect the delineation came from wanting to make a distinction between the more-or-less-terrible KKII and the actually-not-that-bad "KKIII".
Also it's nothing like the Orcs/Skellies because it has completely new characters for both the villains and heroes, with Jayko being the only holdover from the jellybean knights; on that note, Jayko is king in the Kentis era and iirc implied to be rather old, whereas he was the young rookie previously. So there's got to be some passage of story time, though product-line-wise, it was just a continuation.
