Yep very different processes.

I doubt Brickforge could try it because the oil pigment that Arealight uses isn't available in the U.S. and I haven't been able to find any product like it. I doubt that resin dyes/pigments would work for ABS plastic anyways. I think the best bet is for Brickforge to continue their work on matching it. They've matched many colors, and I bet they will get a perfect Sand Green soon enough.

Brickforge uses a steel or aluminum mold, I'm not sure which. I'm presuming steel which lasts longer. They can give hundreds of thousands of casts (Sometimes). Resin uses silicone molds which are rubbery and don't give many casts before its not usable anymore.

The Steel molds have ABS plastic injected into them by a large machine. The casts are usually perfect 100% of the time. Silicone molds have resin put into them, which many bubbles and other problems can happen because it uses gravity and bubbles get trapped and ruin the whole piece. ABS is a higher quality plastic than resin too.

ABS uses little pellets that are melted at high temperatures and then injected. Resin is two parts mixed together. If you don't mix them right, the piece might not harden right. Adding pigment to resin furthers that.

There are many more differences and lots of detail I left out. What I said is simply put.

I just got in touch with Arealight over at FC and he says when he finds the time he'll post here. Hopefully he'll elaborate on how he makes his molds and such. Already has some great pictures over at his Flickr gallery on how he creates his helmets. I suggest you all check it out when you have the time.

Hey folks, Yep, as BJ said, The ABS plastic is definitely better than resin casting quality. And thanks BJ for clear explain the problem with resin casting process. Actually, I have a vacuum deaerated machine to solve the bubbles problem. However it still has a lot of troubles with cast process, Too many variable you can't handle it, like as temperature, humidity and how you stirred the resin mixed or else. So paying more patience and practice is worth.

For the color matching of resin casting, It's very easy to adjust the color what you like. Just mix the color dye with resin. Then you can see the come out just take a couple of minutes. Certainly, you need mix the colors near what you want at first, Its rule does not break away from hues, colour saturation and lightness. And don't forget consider in fact interaction of the original color of resin that you used. ex. My resin in color ivory, So I need consider it has a bit yellow when I do matching color. No special tricks, More patience and practice~ And it's helpful for reading some books about colors.
