It is cool, but I think it would be to close of a resemblance to the one from another certain retailer.

Those look quite similar, you have to consider that the actual weapon would have to be simplified when turned into an item for minifigs. the Prongs on the back would have to be made into a single fin (like BA did) or shortened to little stubs that wouldn't break off. If I needed a COD Ray-gun I would be satisfied using a BA ray-gun. If BF makes one that is significantly different that would be great. Some unique suggestions that are new, and different from stuff that has already been done would be cool.
