Not sure which this goes under ... because it will have minfigs and some customizing ... but, I'd also like a bit of discussion too ... so mods if it needs to be moved - my apologies.

I'm in the process of working on a few minfigs, SMarines, that have actual battle damage to them, not just the dry brush techniques. (Eventually I will combine the two).
So here's my first installment of pics for discussion on doing 'realistic' battle damage.
I want some of my troops to 'look' like they've seen some 'serious' battle, not just a few scrapes.

Here is the below SMarine before painting this pic is washed out because it was so hard to see the actual damage before painting.

Image Image Image

This minfig has been given some heavy scratches and a small amount of chipping (like on the helmet brim and left side of armor facing you). I wanted it to look like this guy did some serious sliding in battle.
Both the armor And the minfig have scratch damage.

Anyway, comments and suggestion are Wanted ... even pics if you have something you've done along this line ...

May the discussion begin!!

halo

Big thanks for taking the lead with these experiments. I think this type of work adds such depth to the overall figure design.

I absolutely love the visor damage. Very cool!

The dark green on green bothers me, but colors aside, I love how it turned out. I'll second Cygnet that the visor damage looks really awesome.

Thanks guys for the input.

@Dylan: I agree about the green on green, thus why they will eventually be painted and made to look more like these, in some fashion or another.
