Custom capes 'n' coats

For a 'secret' upcoming moc, I was thinking of making some trench coats like things and coats for the minifigs. Does anyone know how to do this or are there any useful links or sites?

Something I forgot to add...
I dont really have many black capes, so is there any alternative material?

Okay, I know a couple of places you can find these. There are templates made by Armothe on his forum. I know that they used to be in the armory, but I don't know where they have been placed after the forum update. You might also want to search on flickr or Brickshelf for templates. There is also the Eurobricks templates index to gaze through. For cape material, you could use printable fabric, it comes in rolls and sheets by the iron-on stuff at your local craft store. I have never seen it in a color other than white, though. I would say if you want to use something cheaper, go with an extra-starched polyester or some of the nicer felt no the roll. I hope this helps!

Thanks, that has really helped me out. Only one thing confuses me though, and that is, what do you mean by armothe's forum?

Actually, you can make some nice capes, coats, and dusters ...
* have paper and either marker or paint both sides of your paper (paint helps make it thicker and not tear),
* use a template to cut around like a pattern - Armothe's duster

I've used this pattern for coats, dusters, trench coats (cut a slit in the back) ... etc.
practice with this pattern - it's amazing!

some uses:
cowboys 1
cowboys 2
trench coat back

I have just started making the paper prototypes and templates. I am making: a waistcoat, a trench coat and a coat with a belt. Now all I need is for my local craft shop to open on Saturday, and that material is mine!

I've tried in the past and didn't find the right material so I just found a good seller on eBay that makes their own.
